Health & Nutrition
Healthy dog treats have short ingredient lists built around named, whole-food ingredients, with a recognizable protein or whole food in the first few spots and no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Ingredients are listed in descending order by weight, so the first few items make up the bulk of the treat — a named whole meat like “chicken” at the top signals high protein, while a grain, starch, or sugar first means the treat is mostly filler. Avoid vague terms like “animal digest” or generic “animal fat,” and steer clear of artificial preservatives such as BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin. A good rule of thumb: if you can’t recognize most of the ingredients, that’s a red flag.
Whatever you choose, treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s daily calories.
The fewer the ingredients, the easier it is to know exactly what your dog is eating — and to pinpoint the cause if something disagrees with them. Limited-ingredient treats help your dog avoid unnecessary fillers like corn, soy, or wheat, which are common sources of food sensitivities. Short lists of named, recognizable foods are one of the most reliable indicators of quality.
There’s no legal definition, so the meaningful markers are ingredient quality and processing: whole, named proteins listed first; human-grade or human-quality sourcing; no artificial preservatives, colors, or cheap fillers; and gentle processing that protects nutrients. Be cautious with front-of-bag marketing — words like “premium,” “natural,” and “wholesome” appear on nearly every bag and aren’t tightly regulated, so the ingredient panel is far more reliable than the claims on the front.
Absolutely. The reasons for this include our ingredient sourcing, clean recipes, and artisan baking process. Our ingredients are all human-grade quality. This means we use whole-food ingredients from human-grade certified suppliers. Our recipes include 70% animal protein making them a high protein reward for dogs of all ages and sizes. The remaining 30% of our recipes are USA-sourced ingredients including potato flour, coconut glycerin, paprika, turmeric, and salt. What is most important is what is NOT in our recipe. We include no fillers, preservatives, and artificial flavors/colors. And lastly our baking process, each treat is crafted using a 48-hour baking process that does not involve any harmful manufacturing practices that would degrade the quality of the nutrients from our premium sourced ingredients.
Yes they are! Each of our 7 ingredients are all natural and sourced in the USA.
We use chicken breasts, beef muscle meat, wild caught alaskan salmon, wild caught Alaskan cod, and pork muscle meat as the proteins in our recipes - no by-products or protein meals!
We use potato flour, coconut glycerin, paprika, turmeric, and salt to complete our recipes and ensure our treats offer an easy-to-break, shelf-stable, delicious reward for dogs.
Not at all! Each ingredient serves an important purpose. Our proteins deliver important nutrients and flavor for dogs. Our potato flour and coconut glycerin help us provide an easy-to-break and crumb-free texture. Our paprika, turmeric and salt ensure our treats offer world class flavor / aroma while remaining shelf stable for 12 months.
Chicken
Turkey
Beef
Alaskan Salmon
Alaskan Cod
Pork
The majority of our treats are single protein however, our Meatlover Treats do combine Beef & Chicken.
Dogs thrive on animal protein. Treats built on real chicken, beef, pork, or fish support muscle development and overall health. Single-protein treats are especially useful for dogs with sensitivities, because they make it easy to avoid a known trigger and to identify the culprit if a reaction occurs.
In general, limited-ingredient, single-protein treats free of corn, soy, wheat, and artificial additives are the easiest on sensitive stomachs. When introducing any new treat to a sensitive dog, go gradually and watch for changes in stool consistency, increased gas, or appetite changes.
Our treats have proven to hold true on this promise. Many of our customers have dogs who are picky eaters and/or have sensitive stomachs and they thrive on our treats reporting high levels of enjoyment and consistently smooth digestion.
Training, Feeding, Everyday Use
The gold standard is the “three S’s”: small, soft, and stinky. Small means pea-sized, so your dog can eat it in one quick bite and you can reward repeatedly without slowing the session. Soft means it’s gone in a flash — no crumbs on the floor to hunt for. Stinky means aromatic and meaty, which grabs your dog’s attention even when there are distractions around.
Saint Rocco’s thankfully checks all three boxes because of our easy-to-break, crumb-free texture, and our unmatched flavor and aroma.
A high-value treat is simply one that gets your dog genuinely excited to work. Your dog decides what counts as high value, but small, soft, and aromatic is the reliable baseline. When distractions are high or the task is hard, these are the treats that keep your dog focused on you.
Absolutely! Our easy-to-break, crumb-free texture, and our unmatched flavor and aroma have made our treats a go-to high-value reward for dog parents across the country.
We are especially popular amongst professional dog trainers and dog sport competitors where they require a product that truly gains and keeps the attention of dogs regardless of the distractions around them!
Soft treats are easier and faster for a dog to eat than crunchy ones. Crunchy biscuits crumble and waiting for your dog to find every piece is time away from teaching. Soft treats also tend to be meatier and smellier, which makes them more motivating.
Follow the 10% rule: treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s total daily calories. To calculate it:
- Find your dog’s daily calorie needs (your vet can help).
- Multiply by 0.10 to get the daily treat budget.
- Divide that budget by the calories per treat.
For example, a dog needing 500 calories a day has a 50-calorie treat budget. Your vet is the best resource for your specific dog.
General guidance: the 10% rule applies to puppies too. Puppies need a lot of calories to fuel rapid growth, so they can have slightly more treats than an adult of the same size, but treats should still be soft, small, high-protein, and easy to digest. That is why Saint Rocco’s is an excellent choice for puppies. We offer treats with limited-ingredient recipes, all natural ingredients, a soft texture, and a delicious flavor / aroma that is easily digestible.
General guidance: senior dogs have slower metabolisms, so low-fat, soft treats help prevent weight gain and are easier to chew — a real benefit for seniors with dental issues. This makes Saint Rocco’s an excellent choice for senior dogs because our bars can be broken into very small pieces (low calories and low fat) plus they are soft so any dogs that have lost teeth can continue to enjoy a product worthy of their enjoyment!
Because smell is a dog’s dominant sense. Dogs have roughly 300 million olfactory receptors, compared with about 6 million in humans, and they can smell an estimated 10,000 to 100,000 times better than we can. On top of that, a far larger share of their brain is devoted to analyzing odor. A strongly aromatic treat is therefore much more motivating and attention-grabbing than a bland one — which is exactly why “stinky” treats work so well for training.
About Saint Rocco's
Saint Rocco’s was created as a passion project by 2 brothers from Bucks County, PA. We grew up learning about the dog treat industry from our grandpa and dad. In 2020, we were sent home from college during Covid. We decided to embrace our family passion and make dog treats we were proud of: Premium Ingredients, Clean Recipes, and Fresh-Baked in Mama’s kitchen.
We fell in love with this passion project; our team still uses our original 48-hour baking process each day at our Bucks County, PA facility and we are on a mission to reward dogs all across the country for their love & loyalty through the products we create.
Saint Rocco’s is named after the patron saint of dogs! Saint Rocco spent his days as a doctor, healing all those who were ill. Eventually, he himself became ill but society could not help him. Thankfully, a dog came to his side, licked his wounds, and fed him bread each day until he fully recovered.
They remained friends for life and are symbolic of the love and loyalty dogs show us and we owe to them. With this as our guiding story we vow to always use human grade ingredients & no harmful preservatives or manufacturing practices when we are creating your tool for a happier, healthier, and more meaningful relationship with your dog.
Yes we are! We are fortunate to be brothers and best friends our whole life. We have so much fun pursuing our mission and building upon three generations of our family passion for serving dogs.
Each batch at Saint Rocco’s is around 160 pounds total. We make batches daily and never have more than 1 week of inventory across our entire 48-hour baking process. This ensures your dog is enjoying a treat worthy of their enjoyment.
Yes they are! We have an incredible team of 30+ employees in Bucks County, PA that are conducting our 48-hour artisan baking process everyday.
Yes they are. Our production facility and packaging / fulfillment facility are located in Bucks County, PA.
Treats: Product Questions
Our treats begin with premium sourcing. We source the finest ingredients we can in the USA to create our 7 ingredient recipes. From there, we grind our whole protein ingredients (chicken breasts, pork muscle meat, beef muscle meat). After grinding, we combine our ground proteins with our potato flour, coconut glycerin, and paprika, turmeric and salt in small batches of around 160lbs. The ingredients are mixed together thoroughly.
Each small batch is then hand-formed into meat-loaves. Each meat loaf is oven-baked to an internal temperature of just 170 degrees. They are removed from the oven to air cool towards an ambient temperature and then they enter our walk-in coolers for a 12 hour deep cool. After the deep cool they have reached a firm and dense texture which makes them perfect for deli slicing. Each meat loaf is sliced into a treat bar.
Each treat bar is hand-placed on dehydrator screens. Our dehydrators are custom built with temperature, humidity, and airflow programs that are designed specifically for each of our recipes. Each treat's cook time varies but ranges from 7 to 9 hours. At this point, they are removed from the dehydrator, packed into bags and ready to make dogs happy across the country!
Because heat destroys nutrients. Cooking at high temperatures kills harmful bacteria but can also break down critical nutrients, undermining the value of quality ingredients. Gentle, low-temperature processing (generally around 140–180°F) minimizes the loss of heat-sensitive nutrients — vitamins A, C, E, and the B vitamins, plus antioxidants, omega fatty acids, and amino acids like lysine. It also preserves the natural flavors and aromas dogs love, and still reduces pathogens such as Salmonella and E. coli, making it safer than raw while keeping many of the same nutritional benefits.
Our 2 top selling treats for training are our Cheeseburger and our Salmon treats!
Both recipes are popular for the same reasons:
- They have a consistently perfect texture for training - soft, easy-to-break, and crumb-free
- They have an irresistible flavor and aroma which makes dogs focus intently on their parent or their trainer when a Cheeseburger or Salmon treat is the reward.
All of our treats are great for small dogs. That said, our Salmon recipes, Beef-based recipes, and Pork-based recipes tend to perform the best because they most consistently have the softest and easiest to break texture. This quality is essential for getting our large meat bars to a size that is well suited for small dogs. Each bar cuts or breaks into about 15 small treats.
All of our treats are great for puppies. That said, our Salmon recipes, Beef-based recipes, and Pork-based recipes tend to perform the best for puppies because they are all very uncommon allergens for puppies and they also consistently have the softest and easiest to break texture of all of our recipes which is essential for getting our large meat bars to a size that is well suited for small dogs. Each bar cuts or tears into about 15 small treats.
Our 3 top selling treats for picky eaters are our Cheeseburger, Meat Lover, and Salmon treats! Our newer Pork and Apple treat has also received rave reviews from picky eaters. These recipes all have an irresistible flavor and aroma which makes dogs go crazy when they get the chance to enjoy them.
Our 3 top selling treats are our Cheeseburger, Meat Lover, and Salmon treats! Our Pork and Apple treat has also received rave reviews from customers since its launch in March 2026 but is not yet as popular since it is our newest flavor. These recipes all have an irresistible flavor and aroma which makes dogs go crazy when they get the chance to enjoy them.
We use real, single-source ingredients and a 48-hour slow-bake, so no two batches look exactly alike.
Meal Toppers / Sprinkles: Product Questions
Toppers are most useful when a dog is bored with repetitive meals, eating poorly, or being a fussy eater — or when you want to add hydration, variety, or specific nutrients. They’re a simple way to make mealtime more appealing without overhauling the diet.
Absolutely! Sprinkles are a healthy, high-protein meal topper that is guaranteed to impress even the pickiest of eaters. You will see your dog begin to react to meal time the way they react to treat time! Plus, the recipes are healthy and all natural so using them in moderation for every meal is 100% recommended.
Our sprinkles begin with premium sourcing. We source the finest ingredients we can in the USA to create our 7 ingredient recipes. After the deep cool they have reached a firm and dense texture which makes them perfect for deli slicing.
Each meat loaf is sliced into a bar (yes our sprinkles and treats are made the same exact way…our sprinkles are NOT made from the wasted pieces of our treats like other companies). Each bar is hand-placed on dehydrator screens. Our dehydrators are custom built with temperature, humidity, and airflow programs that are designed specifically for each of our recipes. Each sprinkle cook time varies but ranges from 4.5 to 6 hours.
At this point, they are removed from the dehydrator, ground into our unique sprinkle format, packed into bottles and ready to impress picky eaters across the country!
The primary things that make our sprinkles special are:
- They are air-dried rather than freeze dried. This means we can strategically keep a larger amount of moisture in our sprinkles which makes their flavor & aroma far superior to freeze dried / dust-like options
- Additionally, this added moisture ensures our sprinkles are not contributing to any dehydration that can occur to dogs while they eat dry food.
- Lastly, they are hand-crafted fresh daily just like our treats. Many companies create toppers by emulsifying the leftovers of their other products… not at saint roccos! Our sprinkles receive the same love, care, and 48-hour focus as our treats.
Despite the name, it’s usually best to mix a topper thoroughly into the food rather than just spooning it on top. Mixing prevents your dog from eating only the topper and leaving the actual food — and most of its nutrition — behind in the bowl.
Toppers labeled for “intermittent and supplemental feeding” should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s diet. It’s fine to use one at every meal as long as you stay under that limit, and adjust the base food to keep total daily calories on target.
Yes — this is one of their main uses. Protein-rich toppers with a strong aroma tend to work best for reluctant eaters, because the smell is what draws a hesitant dog back to the bowl.
Introduce them slowly to avoid stomach upset. A typical ramp:
- Days 1–2: add about ¼ of the recommended serving to the regular food.
- Days 3–4: increase to about half the serving if your dog enjoys it with no digestive trouble.
- Build up to the full serving over the following days.
General guidance: treats and toppers can be used daily as long as they stay within the 10% supplemental-feeding limit and your dog’s overall diet remains complete and balanced. But as long as you stay within the 10% rule our treats and sprinkles are an absolute must for dogs of all ages and sizes!
Entree's: Product Questions
Our entrees begin with premium sourcing. We source the finest ingredients we can in the USA to create our 10 ingredient recipes. From there, we separately oven-bake our veggies and proteins. This is important because the internal temperatures we achieve for proteins differs from what we want to achieve with veggies. We boil our grains (barley or quinoa), then we grind our proteins and veggies and mix them thoroughly. Each entree is hand packed into our 1lb containers ready to impress picky eaters.
All of our Entrees meet AAFCO standards for Complete and Balanced meals.
Absolutely! Our entrees were formulated with the help of a professional nutritionist to ensure our recipes are complete and balanced and meet all AAFCO standards.
Our entrees are a passion project inside our passion project.
Despite desperately wanting our entrees to be in homes across the country we have made the business decision to focus on first serving our backyard. That is why our entrees are readily available to customers near our Bucks County, PA facility and as we continue to evolve as a company we hope to spread this incredible product to more homes!
